DOH: No evidence of surge in NCR yet

By NG Seruela

The Department of Health (DOH) asserted that there is still no evidence that the National Capital Region (NCR) is experiencing a surge.

In today’s (July 28) Laging Handa public briefing, DOH-NCR Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Head Dr. Manuel Mapue II affirmed that the increase in the number of cases in Metro Manila is not yet a surge, based on their data.

He explained that based on the analysis and the average daily attack rate of the cities, Las Piñas, Makati, Pasay, and San Juan are reported to have a fast increase in cases.

Mapue said the indication of a surge is a steady increase of COVID-19 cases in the region. He assured the public they are prepared for it.

The OCTA Research team said on Tuesday (July 27) that the NCR is “officially in a surge” due to the increase in the number of cases and the rise of the reproduction number to 1.33. – jlo
