DOH: Redefining ‘fully vaccinated’ can cause confusion

By Myris Lee

The Department of Health is still not keen on redefining the definition of the term “fully vaccinated,” saying that this is to avoid confusion since there are still unvaccinated individuals  in the country.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vegerie said health officials and vaccine experts prefer to use a different term such as “up-to-date vaccination,” which is currently being used by other countries and to encourage more citizens to get vaccinated.

“Itong ating primary series, hanggang sa ngayon kahit kaunti, may proteksiyon pang ibinibigay sa atin,” she said.

“Kapag kasi ini-redefine natin at inilagay natin ang booster dose as part of the fully vaccinated individual, baka magkaroon ng confusion doon sa sinasabi nilang mandatory versus voluntary na pagbabakuna,” she added..

The official said they will soon issue an advisory on the matter. – ag
