DOH: Dengue cases lower this year

The number of dengue cases for 2022 was 15% lower than what was reported in 2020, the Department of Health (DOH) said Friday, May 20.

According to DOH, there were 22,277 dengue cases reported from Jan. 1 to April 30, lower than the 26,114 cases reported during the same period last year.

“The weekly reported cases in 2022 were significantly lower except in Morbidity Weeks 12 to 16 (March 20 to April 23, 2022) where cases were higher than the cases in 2021,” DOH said.

The Health department said most dengue cases were reported from Region III (2,858), Region VII (2,905), and National Capital Region (NCR) (2,339), with 126 deaths reported. 

Meanwhile, a total of 583 leptospirosis cases were reported from Jan. 1 to April 30,nationwide. This is equally the same number of cases reported during the same period last year. 

“However, looking into weekly cases, higher number of leptospirosis cases were reported in Morbidity Weeks 11 to 17 (March 13 to April 30, 2022),” DOH noted.

Regions with the highest number of leptospirosis cases were: Region VI (101), NCR (76), and Region II (69), with 77 fatalities reported. – gb
