DOJ action center gives legal aid to over 4K clients from Jan-April

MANILA — Despite the demolition of its offices, the Department of Justice Action Center (DOJAC) has served more than 4,000 people by providing them legal assistance as it assured continued service to the public.

DOJAC Program Director Perla Duque reported to Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra that the DOJAC has already served a total of 4,032 clients from January to April this year.

These include 22 people involved in gender-sensitivity issues, 71 senior citizens, and seven persons with disabilities.

“DOJAC transferred to its provisional location pending the demolition of the Administration Building to pave the way for the construction of a new one,” Duque said in a statement Monday.

At the moment, the DOJAC has transferred its operations at the Sunny Oak Building located along Engracia Reyes St. in Manila.

Last year, the DOJAC managed to serve a total of 11,883 clients.

The DOJAC was created to extend various legal assistance to the public, especially those belonging to the marginalized sector, who send their requests or complaints personally or through phone-calls, letters or emails.

It was established on Feb. 28, 1985 as a Public Assistance Center and then renamed to Public Assistance and Complaints Unit on May 3, 1989.

It became DOJAC pursuant to Department Order No. 204 issued on June, 22 1995. (Christopher Lloyd Caliwan/PNA)
