DOJ backs prompt disposal of seized illegal drugs

The Department of Justice (DOJ) favors the suggestion of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to destroy immediately the illegal drugs recovered from buy bust operations. Justice chief Menardo Guevarra said this approach will ensure that “ninja cops” will not be able to sell said items for their own benefit. Recently, it has been found that some police officers, “the ninja cops,” keep the confiscated illegal drugs from police operations and sell the same for their own good. Involved in the issue is Barangay Chairperson Guia Gomez Castro. Meanwhile, the Senate of the Philippines on Tuesday (01 October 2019) investigated the alleged irregularity in the buy bust activity of 13 Pampanga policemen in November 2013. The police officers had found 200 kilograms of illegal drugs, but they declared only 30 kilograms.
