DOJ: Person behind fried towel may face criminal raps

The individual behind the ‘fried towel’ incident of a famous fast food chain branch might face criminal charges, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said.

“The perpetrator may be charged with violation of the relevant provisions of the Food Safety Act of 2013 and the Consumer Act of the Philippines,” DOJ Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Wednesday (June 9).

On June 3, a fast food branch in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) temporarily closed following a viral social media post on June 1, showing that the customer received a breaded and fried face towel instead of chicken.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reminded food service providers to be truthful about their products, and added that customers may complain to the DTI for “deceptive, unfair, and unconscionable sales act or practice.” – Report from Kenneth Paciente/AG-jlo
