MANILA — Law enforcement agencies have started efforts to get to the bottom of the organized disinformation campaign being waged on social media against President Rodrigo Duterte and his family by shadowy figures.

“We’ll wait for more information. But we have started digging on the source of the “Bikoy” video. For a start, we have moved to preserve the data,” Justice secretary Menardo Guevarra told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) when sought for comment on the recent developments in the well-funded and organized plot to undermine the government.

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin M. Andanar said the government has opted to leave the government’s next move to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

“Secretary Salvador Panelo has already released the matrix and we can see already it in newspapers, TV and radio,”Andanar said in an interview over radio station dzXL.

“Let’s see what are the next steps to take if it will be investigated by the Department of Justice,” he added.

In the video, which recently circulated on social media, a certain “Bikoy”, who claimed to be a former record keeper of a narcotics ring operating in Southern Luzon and Visayas, linked former Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go and presidential son and former Davao City vice mayor Paolo Duterte to the illegal drug trade.
