DOLE distributes P2.5-M livelihood aid in Zamboanga Sibugay

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay — The Department of Labor and Employment, in collaboration with the provincial government, distributed PHP2.5 million livelihood starter kits to 108 workers in the informal sector here.

The starter kits that were distributed to the beneficiaries on Tuesday were for carpentry, cosmetology, dressmaking, cookery, cellular phone repair, food processing, barber servicing, refrigeration/aircon repair, electrical servicing and small engine repair.

Imelda Gatinao, DOLE provincial head, said the starter kits is a livelihood formation strategy of the DOLE that is intended to improve the socio-economic well-being of workers in the informal sector.

Gatinao told the Philippine News Agency it is implemented through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP).

“It aims to engage the beneficiaries in sustainable self-employment to learn livelihood tasks,” Gatinao said.

She and Fr. Noelito Salandron, an executive assistant of the provincial government, on Tuesday distributed the livelihood starter kits to the beneficiaries at the provincial capitol building.

Salandron represented Gov. Wilter Yap Palma and Public Employment Service Office Manager Nelsi Lazo during the distribution of the livelihood starter kits.

Of the 108 beneficiaires, 20 were persons with disability (PWDs), who received livelihood starter kits for cosmetology, barbers servicing, and dressed-making.

Gatinao said the implementation of the livelihood project is in partnership with the provincial government under the stewardship of Palma.

Tuesday’s distribution of livelhood starter kits was the second to be disbributed this year.

The first was worth PHP1.6 million which was distributed to 108 beneficiaries during the week-long 17th founding anniversary celebration of this province. (PNA)
