DOLE-Nueva Vizcaya targets 1.8K students for summer jobs

ARITAO, Nueva Vizcaya — The Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) office in Nueva Vizcaya province is eyeing some 1,861 students for this year’s Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES).

DOLE-Nueva Vizcaya field office OIC Engr. Joseph B. Sales told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in a phone interview Thursday that they have begun accepting applications for the summer job program.

Sales noted that as earlier planned, they allocated a fund of PHP5.39 million for this year’s SPES as its 40-percent salary-counterpart.

To date, 16 prospective employers from government agencies and six from the private sector have submitted their pledge of commitment conveying their interest to employ students.

He said that in the previous years of SPES implementation, local government units (LGUs) usually assigned the student-employees to their respective National Greening Program while those in the college level were assigned to offices where they could gain experience related to their course.

The student-employees in the private sector were also deployed as student-assistants in libraries, registrar’s office, and general services office as utility/messenger staff or service crew, Sales added.

Meanwhile, SPES Advisory No. 02 – 2018 requires all LGU employers to conform to the third tranche of compensation adjustment for the current fiscal year of SPES implementation.

However, LGUs that have used the budget circular advocating the second tranche as basis for their budget proposal for their SPES allotment in 2017, may adhere to it in consultation with the Commission on Audit. (Simeon Dilan/PNA)
