DOLE readies educational kits for child laborers

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — Selected child laborers in the province of Antique will benefit from the Labor Day walk-for-a- cause, according to the provincial office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here.

DOLE Provincial Director Melisa Navarra, in an interview Wednesday, said that around 200 individuals participated during their “Walk for a Cause” here that was also intended as an advocacy campaign against child labor.

“We were able to raise some amount out of the registration of the participants which we will use to buy educational materials,” she said.

She added that they are now accounting the proceeds so they would know how many children could benefit from it.

“We are in the process of determining the local government unit where there are child laborers and would be recipient of the educational kits,” she added.

She said that the distribution would be done on June 12 during the International Children’s Month Celebration in the province.

The walk- for-a- cause was held simultaneously in various provinces of Western Visayas.
