The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said it will push for the urgent passing of the Security of Tenure or Anti-End of Contract Bill.
In today’s (July 21) Laging Handa public briefing, Labor Sec. Silvestre Bello III said he signed a letter addressed to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte recommending that he certify the “anti-endo” bill as urgent before the Senate.
He reiterated that the passing of the bill is one of the President’s promises. He said as early as 2019, the President had certified an anti-endo bill. However, President Duterte vetoed the bill after some labor groups demonstrated their objections against the bill.
“In fact, as early as 2019, nag-certify na siya ng endo bill sa Kongreso. Dumaan sa House of Representatives, in-approve. Pending sa Senado, in-approve din. Pagdating sa Pangulo dahil pipirmahan na niya, ang problema, maraming mga labor group na nagpoprotesta at ayaw daw nila iyong endo bill that was passed by Congress. On that basis…vineto [veto] ng ating Pangulo,” he said.
Bello said he is “confident” that Duterte will certify the bill as urgent and he hopes that the bill will be signed into law before the end of the President’s term.
“Now, ipapa-certify na naman namin kay Pangulong Duterte and I am confident na isi-certify na niya and hopefully papasa na ito and hopefully wala nang magrereklamo,” he added. – jlo
