DOLE warns public vs. spurious info online, mobile phones

By Ferdinand Patinio/PNA

MANILA — Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Friday warned the public not to believe a message being circulated on social media and mobile phones regarding the monetary benefits of employees who have worked with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) between 1990 and 2018.

“This is not true,” Bello said in a statement. “This spurious information also illegally uses the DOLE logo, the link to the official website, and even a photo of department officials to create a semblance of authenticity and mislead people.”

The labor chief urged the public to be alert over the spread of the bogus announcement and report any similar incident to the nearest regional labor offices, bureaus, attached agencies, and overseas office.

At the same time, he noted that they have coordinated with authorities for the immediate arrest of those behind the hoax message.

“The Department has coordinated with law enforcement agencies and is exerting all efforts in tracking the perpetrators of this fraud,” Bello added.
