DOT-9 seeks to craft own tourism masterplan

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Department of Toursim (DOT) has requested its central office to allocate Php5 million to finance the crafting of a Regional Tourism Masterplan.

DOT Regional Director Karina Rosa Tiopes told the Philippine News Agency the funds will be allocated for activities that will support the crafting of the tourism masterplan.

Director Tiopes said the activities will include workshops, consultations, site assessments, and payment for services of experts – especially on product development, marketing and promotion.

Tiopes said stakeholders such as the local government unit, business sector, academe, and the media will be also involved in the crafting of the regional tourism plan.

She expects the tourism plan to be completed within six months.

She said there should be a masterplan to have a clear direction of the tourism industry in the region.

“With the master plan, it’s easy for DOT and the other stakeholders to determine their programs on a year on year basis,” Tiopes said. (PNA)
