Under the DOTr’s Libreng Sakay Program, MPUJ drivers will be paid by the government at a rate of P46.87 per kilometer run under the SCP. This is higher than the regular operation of SCP since the drivers will not receive fares from their passengers.
So mas mataas po ito,” Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) OIC Executive Director Joel Bolano said.
[Regarding our free rides, we are paying the driver/operator P46.87 per kilometer run. This is high, (almost) double what we pay buses which is P33, and more than four times the P11.point.something per kilometer for (traditional jeepneys). So this is higher.]
[Because our drivers here are paid on a daily basis, not under the boundary system. If we compare with the traditional jeepneys, they have to earn on a daily basis. With modern PUJs, they shoulder the operating expense. And as we know, service contracting won’t pay them on the same day.]
Meanwhile, the LTFRB encourages traditional jeepney drivers to apply for the SCP regular operation for additional income from the government. Click the website to register https://www.servicecontracting.ph/.
