MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will deploy anew its motorist assistance teams next week in anticipation of the influx of travelers for the Lenten break.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said the public assistance program, dubbed Lakbay Alalay, will be placed along strategic locations nationwide starting noon on Holy Wednesday until noon on April 22.

The teams will assist motorists that will be visiting churches, pilgrimages and taking advantage of the long weekend to spend time with families and loved ones.

Villar added uniformed Motorist Assistance Teams with maintenance equipment on standby and navy blue-colored Lakbay Alalay tents will be deployed on a round-the-clock shift to provide emergency assistance and ensure major thoroughfares are well-maintained, and free from obstructions and potholes.

Also, teams shall make sure that appropriate warning, directional, and information signages are legibly and visibly installed especially along critical sections.

In a statement, DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR) Director Ador Canlas said the road works will start at 11 p.m. Friday in the following areas, EDSA, southbound direction from New York Street to before Monte de Piedad in Quezon City, 1st lane from the sidewalk; and at the northbound direction between White Plains Subdivision Gate 4, in Quezon City.
