The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) accomplished two flood-control projects aimed at safeguarding communities and agricultural lands in Aurora and Tarlac from potential flood risks.

In a news release Wednesday, DPWH Region 3 Director Roseller Tolentino reported that the P49-million protective slope structure in Barangay Culat in Casiguran, Aurora channels excess water away from residential areas.

“This project was carefully designed to provide a durable defense against the heavy rainfall and overflow from nearby rivers that frequently threaten the area,” Tolentino said.

Meanwhile, the P47.8-million flood-control structure along Susubaen Creek in Tarlac is expected to protect farm lands in the municipality of Ramos, which is a rice and corn production hub.

According to Tolentino, the project involved a hydraulic gate to effectively control water flow in the area, “ensuring improved water distribution across the area.”
