DPWH completes P46.5-M wall along Tullahan River

MANILA — Residents living near the Tullahan River in SSS Village, Barangay North Fairview, Quezon City are safe from flooding with the recent completion of the multi-million worth of river wall.

According to DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR) Director Melvin Navarro, the newly-constructed revetment wall, measuring 9 meters tall, will serve as a protective barrier to flooding.

He noted that the 461-lineal meter structure was constructed under Rehabilitation and Improvement of Tullahan River Phase II. The project cost is PHP46.5 million.

“With the taller and sturdier concrete revetment along Tullahan River, residents near the area are assured that the inundation of flooding and soil erosion along the river banks will be avoided in case of heavy rains preventing damages of properties and loss of lives,” Navarro said in a statement.

The DPWH official added that the new wall has replaced an old, dilapidated, 3 meters in height grouted riprap serves as a defense against force of river especially during heavy rains in the area.

The undertaking was implemented from February to November 2018 by DPWH Quezon City First District Engineering Office headed by District Engineer Marlyn G. Inguillo.

The construction was funded under the 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
