DPWH conducts road maintenance works ahead of ASEAN meetings

MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is conducting maintenance works on roads in the National Capital Region (NCR) ahead of the  Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) 2017 Summit in Metro Manila and Clark, Pampanga slated November 13-15.

Melvin Navarro, DPWH-NCR director, said they are conducting works such as patching of holes, painting of curbs, asphalt laying and replacing light bulbs in tunnels in different areas in the metropolis.

“Nag ikot kami ngayon from boundary Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), McArthur Highway sa Valenzuela, Roxas Boulevard,” he said.

The DPWH-NCR official added that they are looking to finish all the works the week before the scheduled international event.

“Halos nagawa na namin lahat. Nagpintura na lang kami at kung may naiwan na potholes na maliliit patching pa namin. Naglalagay ng ilaw sa Ayala tunnel. Lahat ng tunnel sa EDSA inaayos namin. Siguro hanggang November 10 tapos na kami,” Navarro said.

“Lahat ng main roads and alternate routes ng asean inaayos natin. medyo presentable naman,” he added.

The DPWH official explained that the maintenance works are regularly being conducted even without the holding of the international meetings.

“Tuloy-tuloy (ang maintenance works). Kahit hindi ASEAN. Ito normal na normal namaintenance fund. Wala naman pondo pang ASEAN,” he added.

The country will be hosting the 50th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings in different venues in Metro Manila and Pampanga on the second week of November. (Ferdinand G. Patinio/PNA)
