A total of P2.75 million cash donation from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was handed over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to aid dependents of Marawi siege heroes.

DPWH Senior Undersecretary Rafael C. Yabut handed over the donation to DSWD Assistant Secretary Jose Antonio Hernandez in a ceremonial turn over held Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the DPWH Head Office in Port Area, Manila.

According to Senior Undersecretary Yabut, the amount of P2.75 million was generated from voluntary financial contributions of officials and employees of the Department nationwide.

“This is our small way of giving thanks and honor to the valiant soldiers and policemen who have sacrificed their lives to bring peace in Marawi,” said Senior Undersecretary Yabut.

DSWD Assistant Secretary Hernandez expressed gratitude to the DPWH which has also provided latrines and water supply facilities in DSWD-managed evacuation centers for internally-displaced persons (IDPs) from the Marawi conflict.

Hernandez also noted that DPWH is the first government agency to donate financial aid to the bereaved dependents of Marawi fallen troops through DSWD.

Aside from the donation, DPWH has provided employment opportunities to qualified dependents of fallen heroes, through its Regional and District Engineering Offices.

DPWH has also distributed relief goods and cash assistance to IDPs and currently leads the Task Force Bangon Marawi Reconstruction Sub-Committee that will reconstruct and rehabilitate all national roads and bridges, public schools, and government buildings, and joins the Housing Sub-Committee by developing sites for transitory shelters. | DPWH-PR
