DPWH nears completion of Leyte road widening project

Residents of Leyte will soon have better access to its neighboring municipalities, as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) sets to finish road widening along Palo-Carigara-Ormoc Road.

According to the report from Region 8 Director Nerie D. Bueno, the project is now 84.12% and is targeted to be completed on February 2020.

With the addition of two lanes along the 1.97 km four-lane Palo Section, the project promises to address traffic congestion and prevent road accidents along Daang Maharlika Highway.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the road project is in line with the government’s massive Build, Build Build program.

“Better mobility will pave way to more economic opportunities for residents and motorists who live in the area. The wider road network shall aid common users such as freight trucks and other public utility vehicles in providing faster service,” Secretary Villar said.

Funded under the 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the 31 million project also involves construction of drainage system, sidewalk, curb, and gutter.
