MANILA — Two road widening projects worth over PHP 72 million in Barangay South Triangle, Quezon City on Friday were opened to motorists to serve as an alternate route to Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa).

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar led the ceremonial inauguration of the newly-rehabilitated and widened one-kilometer section of Samar Street worth PHP57.87 million as well as the 229-linear meter 11th Jamboree Street, which cost PHP14.65 million.

“I’m glad to be here to witness the inauguration of these road improvement projects that can serve as an alternate route to the congested Edsa and benefit thousands of motorists,” he said in a statement released on Saturday.

Villar noted that the completed section of Samar Street starts from Timog Avenue and ends on Mother Ignacia Street, while the 11th Jamboree Street project, with improved drainage canals, begins from Timog Avenue up to Edsa.

“Widening from two lanes to four lanes of these roads could ease traffic in Quezon City as Samar Street is located in parallel while 11th Jamboree Street links directly to Edsa,” he added.

The road widening and improvement projects were implemented by DPWH’s Quezon City District Engineering Office.
