DPWH will ‘not tolerate’ corrupt DEs

Following President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s announcement of the alleged corrupt district engineers in his weekly public address, Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar responded that due process will be respected.

In relation with this, Sec. Villar warned the individuals conducting illegal and corrupt activities in the agency.

“The President has made it clear to us that hindi namin ito-tolerate [ito] (we will not tolerate this). You have been warned and now we are to go after those who have clear evidence [of corruption].”

Sec. Villar disclosed that over 12 individuals have been issued a show cause order due to alleged corruption in the department. He added that the Duterte administration has the most black-listed contractors due to drawing kickbacks from the projects.

President Duterte also asked for the list of the district engineers in the country to conduct a shuffle.

The DPWH Chief assured that he will visit the 10 people included in the said list and carry out the Chief Executive’s orders. – Report from Karen Villanda
