Drug suspect in police watch list nabbed in Dagupan

DAGUPAN CITY – A 45-year-old financial consultant, who is on the drug watch list of the Pangasinan police, was arrested in a joint operation after authorities seized several sachets of suspected shabu in her apartment in Barangay Pantal here Tuesday morning.

Superintendent Jandale Sulit, officer in charge of Dagupan City Police Station (DCPS), identified the suspect as Arminda Yuson, a financial consultant of a lending company in this city.

In an interview Tuesday, Sulit said the operation – spearheaded by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO) and in coordination with DCPS and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Ilocos region – was based on the search warrant issued by Acting Presiding Judge Mervin Jovito Samadan of Regional Trial Court Branch 70 in Burgos town.

“This operation was led by PPO, from the intelligence gathering and it was just coordinated to us,” he said.

Sulit disclosed that among the confiscated items from Yuson’s apartment, particularly in a chess box above a microwave oven in the dining area, were 15 heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu, a digital weighing scale, seven pieces of aluminum foil, and other drug paraphernalia.

“We have called the owner of the apartment, where the suspect resided to know how long she has been staying in the city,” he said.

As of this writing, the weight and amount of the confiscated alleged shabu are still being determined.

“The pieces of evidence were brought to the Crime Laboratory in La Union,” Sulit added.

A case for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 was being prepared against the suspect. (Ahikam Pasion/PNA)
