DSWD augments resources of regions affected by enhanced southwest monsoon

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to deliver 500 family food packs for families affected by heavy rains spawned by the Southwest Monsoon and Tropical Storm ‘Huaning” in Mountain Province.

Apart from this, DSWD-Field Office CAR extended some P8,874.48 worth of initial aid to the municipality of Bakun, Benguet.

Likewise, DSWD-Field Office I extended some P42,578 worth of assistance to the province of La Union which is also being affected by the weather disturbance.

Meanwhile, 157 families or 642 persons from Regions I, CAR, CALABARZON and the National Capital Region (NCR) are currently staying in 11 evacuation centers in the said regions, while 1,172 displaced families or 5,403 persons are staying with relatives or friends in Regions I and CAR.

Currently, the DSWD maintains its coordination with affected local government units (LGUs) for updates on the displaced families and requests for augmentation support.

“Despite the exit of Gorio, the country continues to experience sporadic rain showers especially in Luzon due to the monsoon rains and the arrival of Tropical Storm ‘Huaning.’ We urge all citizens to remain vigilant and to continue to coordinate with their LGUs to prevent any untoward incidents,” said DSWD Secretary Judy M. Taguiwalo.

“The DSWD and our field offices remain ready to assist municipalities and cities in need of augmentation support if their resources are no longer enough for their affected constituents’” she added.  | DSWD-PR
