The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has started its relief operations in localities affected by heavy rains brought about by various weather disturbances.
As of Jan. 4, P52,417,028.79 worth of assistance has been provided by the DSWD, local government units, and other partners in Regions V, VI, VII, IX, X, XI, XII, Caraga, and BARMM.
The DSWD said relief goods have been prepositioned, as it shares that there are currently over P100 million standby funds and more than 85,200 family food packs available in its central office and field offices.
The DSWD said its Field Office XI has provided P123,200 worth of humanitarian assistance in Davao del Norte to assist a total of 8,259 families or 30,217 individuals affected by the trough of the low pressure area in Mindanao.
Of this, some 687 families or 3,116 individuals are staying in 10 temporary shelters while 70 families or 277 individuals are staying with their relatives and friends.
The DSWD Field Offices X and XI also have 53,900 available food packs.
In Mimaropa, the DSWD said those affected by the northeast monsoon (amihan) in Palawan and Oriental Mindoro have received P1.9 million worth of assistance.
Around 2,500 family food packs were also distributed to Brooke’s Point and 1,500 in Sofronio Española amounting to P2.4 million. This is to help some 6,048 families or 28,226 individuals in 62 barangays, including some 23 families or 125 persons in evacuation centers and 103 families or 487 in other facilities.
The DSWD said 285 houses in the region were damaged by the flooding incident.
The DSWD in Bicol has over 41,500 food packs and 50,900 non-food items available for distribution for 40 families or 129 individuals are affected by the weather disturbance in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Sorsogon.
Meanwhile, assistance amounting to P36.8 million have been distributed throughout the country for those affected by the shearline. AG
