DSWD, city gov’t program aims to feed 34K children in Davao

DAVAO CITY — The local government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are targeting more than 34,000 children for the Supplemental Feeding Program involving all barangays in the city.

City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) chief Maria Luisa Bermudo said Monday DSWD’s allocation would be a big help to the city’s 695 day care and home-based centers in the city.

“For the second tranche, the DSWD downloaded PHP63,150,600 that will benefit our 34,963 children enrolled in day care centers in all barangays to ensure that the children will receive nutritious food,” Bermudo said.

She said that through the supplemental feeding program, day care centers will receive money to feed the children with nutritious food cooked by their own parents.

“We let the parents cook the food so that they can also cook it in their homes. That way, we can ensure that the kids are eating nutritious food continuously,” Bermudo said.

She said the DSWD budget can last up to 120 feeding cycles in all the 695 day care and home-based centers in all barangays in the city.

The recipients, she said, are three- to four-year-old children who are not covered by the city government’s own budget. (Funny Pearl Gajunera/PNA)
