DSWD continues to assist El Niño affected LGUs

Despite the declaration of the start of the rainy season, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to assist local government units (LGUs) that are still reeling from the effects of the El Niño phenomenon, providing them a total of P9,444,343.70 worth of augmentation assistance, as of June 26, 2019.

According to the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAG-ASA), the El Niño phenomenon will likely to continue until the June-July-August 2019 season.

The DSWD-Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) reported that a total of 455,444 families  or  2,208,504 persons  from 30 provinces in Regions I, V, VI, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, CAR, and Caraga have been affected by the phenomenon.

Concerned DSWD Field Offices continue to coordinate with the LGUs to determine other services that the affected families may need to help them cope with the effects of El Niño.
