DSWD: Government has enough funds for SAP if ECQ is extended

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) assures the government has enough funds for the social amelioration program until next month if President Rodrigo Duterte decides to extend the enhanced community quarantine.

The DSWD said there is a Php 200 billion fund allotted for the Social Amelioration Program (SAP). Over Php 25.4 billion has been distributed to 5.3 million beneficiaries while over Php 76 billion has been distributed to assist 1,369 local government units.

The agency has reminded that citizens who believe they should receive cash assistance such as the homeless and street dwellers may appeal and will only need to go to the local social welfare development office. The DSWD earlier approved the inclusion of barangay health workers and “tanods” as beneficiaries of the SAP but they might still undergo assessment by the local government. – Report from Daniel Manalastas
