DSWD, LGUs distribute 7.2-M humanitarian aid to ‘Florita’ victims

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and local government units (LGUs) have distributed a total of P7.2 million humanitarian assistance to the affected areas of Severe Tropical Storm Florita.

In the Laging Handa briefing, DSWD Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez said that P5 million came from DSWD while more than P2 million came from LGUs and non-government organizations (NGOs).

Lopez said that more than 100,000 individuals have been affected by typhoon Florita from Regions 1, 2, 3, Calabarzon, and Cordillera Administrative Region.

He added that over 1,000 people remain in evacuation centers while over 1,000 people have chosen to stay with their friends and relatives.

Lopez assured that their department will strengthen their coordination with every LGUs for a prompt delivery of assistance.

“Wala tayong nakikitang problema at naayudahan po ng mabilis ang ating mga kababayan,” he said.

“On our part, as long as malaman po namin ang sitwasyon  ng ating mga kababayan ay hindi po aabutin ng 24 hours ay darating po ang assistance na kinakailangan ng ating mga kababayan,” he added. –Report from Naomi Tiburcio/KC-ag
