DTI to continue mentorship program in Region 11

DAVAO CITY — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao Region will continue its mentorship program in 2018 to further capacitate local entrepreneurs.

Known as the “Kapatid Mentor ME” (KMME) program, it is designed to develop micro enterprises (MEs) by getting some help from the successful entrepreneurs through mentorship.

These mentors, also called angelpreneurs, will share their expertise to the mentees through various modules.

KMME, which is one of the three components of “Kapatid Angat Lahat” program launched in Davao City last October 7, 2016 with President Rodrigo Duterte, is being implemented by the agency’s provincial offices.

It features modules that will subject the beneficiaries to various business concepts and develop the acumen needed in scaling and sustaining their enterprises. It is divided into two main topics – The Enterprise and Sustaining the Enterprise.

The Enterprise is a seven-topic module covering the basic functional areas of an enterprise – Product Development, Marketing, Operations Management, Accounting, Taxation, Finance, and Obligations and Contracts.

Meanwhile, Sustaining the Enterprise is a four-topic module which focuses on sustainability amidst growth, particularly HR Management, Supply and Value Chain, Succession Planning, and Business Plan development.

In 2017, Davao Region was able to produce 232 graduates in 10 batches.

In the meantime, the 2018 run of KMME in the region will jumpstart with the KMME opening activity on March 20 at Ritz Hotel in Davao City.

During the opening, the first two modules will already be tackled, namely: Module 1: Entrepreneurial Mind-Setting and Values Formation; and Module 2: Marketing Mindset with accredited mentors/angelpreneurs as resource speakers.

After which, the DTI-Davao provincial offices shall already start with the weekly modules.

With this capacity-building program for microenterprises, DTI hopes to bring in improved productivity for enterprises, increased value-adding activities, and employment opportunities in the region.

“We encourage more microenterprises to be part of the program and strive hard to level up and be of help to other people by creating job opportunities,” DTI-Davao Regional Director Maria Belenda Ambi said.

Micro enterprises who are interested to become mentees may contact the nearest DTI Office or Negosyo Center. (Jenny Mendoza/PNA)
