DTI continues to empower barangay micro enterprises

LAOAG CITY— The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has been doing the rounds of the different towns of Ilocos Norte to strengthen micro business enterprises in the villages.

In Piddig town for example, about 20 small entrepreneurs attended the “5S of Housekeeping and Food Safety” seminar on Tuesday, courtesy of the DTI in partnership with the Go Negosyo Center and the local government.

According to Angel Mangaoil of the DTI, the seminar aims to help small-time entrepreneurs in registering their business and at the same time meet quality standards for their products.

The selected participants are engaged in food production, processing and manufacturing, including agro-processing, and trading with a total asset of not more than PHP3 million.

With the ongoing developments in agriculture and infrastructure in Piddig town, various businesses have mushroomed such as coffee retailing and peanut butter processing, among others.

Through the Go Negosyo program, the Piddig local government is urging residents to think like an entrepreneur and start a small business.

Those who are interested can get some support from the government such as on proper handling of products, labeling and packaging and business registration.

The DTI is encouraging businesses to be properly registered to ensure quality product standards. (PNA)
