DTI to hold consumer protection forum in Baragatan festival

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan — The local office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here is participating in the Baragatan sa Palawan festival this year to highlight its blueprint “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan, at Konsyumerismo” decent job and entrepreneurship creation effort.

Dubbed as TNKK, it will be held on June 21-22 at the VJR Hall of the Palawan Provincial Capitol, where the annual convergence festival is currently being held.

DTI Palawan provincial director Rosenda Fortunado said they will conduct a consumer protection forum on June 21 to discuss common consumer complaints and how their rights are protected under the law.

The usual grievances are about liability for product and services; deceptive, unfair and unconscionable sales acts or practices; misleading advertisements and fraudulent sales promotion practices, poor internet connection, and poor customer service.

“The forum will try to talk about prevailing complaints from the customers and how they can be addressed within the prescribed time and how their rights are safeguarded,” she said.

She said the forum will be held while the Provincial Public Service Employment Office and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) are implementing a job fair.

She added that various agencies of the provincial and national governments will also be present for a one-stop-shop registration, consultation, and will accept inquiries from the public on how to start businesses.

Expected to be present are representatives from DOLE, Department of Foreign Affairs, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Statistics Authority, Provincial and City Public Employment Service Office, Social Security System, Pag-IBIG, PhilHealth, and other concerned agencies.

On June 22, the DTI will have a surprise guest, who will be sharing experiences with local entrepreneurs on how to start a business.

“We will have a special guest who will share on how a business can start even with just small capitals. This testimony will give them a lot of insights on how they can also become successful as entrepreneurs,” said Fortunado.

Branding and trademarking will also be discussed on the second day to push local products to become globally competitive. There will also be a talk about how to register products with the DTI Intellectual Property Office to protect the interest of the companies or businesses. (Celeste Anna Formoso/PNA)
