DTI opposes mandatory vaccine pass proposal

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) opposed on Sunday (May 16) the proposal for a mandatory vaccine pass for individuals going to malls or inside business establishments.

In an interview with DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez, he asserted that the proposal might draw discrimination to the consumers if implemented. He believes that the proposal is not yet “timely,” especially that the vaccination program of the national government is still ongoing.

In today’s (May 17) Laging Handa public briefing, DTI Undersecretary Ireneo Vizmonte supported the DTI Chief’s statement. He said that the mandatory vaccine pass is not timely because based on the Department of Health (DOH)’s data, the vaccine does not completely stop the virus from “contaminating” others, rather only weakens it.
