DTI rejects resumption of liquor, automotive operations

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has rejected the appeal of liquor manufacturers and car retailers to allow them to resume operations.

DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez explained that the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) did not consider their products as essential amid the Enhanced Community Quarantine.

Sec. Lopez reiterated that the government implemented the ECQ to limit the movement of the public and prevent the spread of the virus. The Alcohol Research and Development Foundation and Philippine Automotive Dealers Association have initially appealed to the DTI for the resumption of their operations since they still pay taxes to the government.
