The Department of Health (DOH) secretary Francisco Duque III announced on Saturday (May 8) that the Philippines is expecting the arrival of at least 193,000 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine from the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) facility.
The incoming vaccines from American pharmaceutical firm Pfizer will be distributed to Metro Manila and other cities which can handle the product’s storage requirement – ultra-low temperature freezers between -80ºC to -60ºC, said Duque.
Duque also noted that since the shipment will be another donation from COVAX, the government’s priority framework will be likewise followed which includes health workers, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities.
Pfizer was the first COVID-19 vaccine to receive emergency validation from the World Health Organization. /CF-rir
