Duque ready to attend senate hearing as lawmakers seek his resignation

Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III is ready to attend the senate hearing soon, following the resolution filed by some senators that called for his resignation.

Duque said it is important to explain to the lawmakers the measures being taken by the health department to control COVID-19 in the country.

“Marami tayong ginagawa. Ang dapat lang siguro maipaliwanag ko sa kanila at maibahagi kung ano-ano ang mga ginagawa natin (We are doing a lot of things. It is necessary that I explain and disclose the steps we are taking),” Duque said.

He added he will remain in his post and will continue to function as health secretary as long as President Duterte is satisfied.

The resolution filed earlier was signed by 15 senators. It called for the resignation of the health secretary due to his performance in addressing the COVID-19 crisis.
