Duterte enjoys confidence of Guimarasnons

ILOILO CITY — President Rodrigo R. Duterte continues to enjoy the confidence of Guimarasnons amid the drop in his net satisfaction and net trust rating in the September 2017 survey conducted by the Social Weather Station (SWS).

Governor Samuel Gumarin on Wednesday said he is “sure” that the more or less 200,000 residents of Guimaras are backing the President. He added that leaders of the province from its lone district representative, governor, vice-governor and mayors are throwing support to the president.

He added that Duterte’s rating as regard his anti-drug campaign remains high.

“I’m sure the confidence of Guimarasnons to President Duterte has increased,” he added.

He recalled that Duterte was only able to muster only around 10 percent of the votes casted in Guimaras during the election.

However, Guimarasnons felt the impact of the President’s anti-drug war, which also has a big effect on the economy of the province and its drive as an agri-eco-tourism destination.

San Lorenzo councilor Lino Galea said that his town mates are supportive of Duterte’s programs, especially on peace and order.

“The people used to be resistant but now our people are all out in supporting him,” he said.

Galea said that they are just waiting for the schedule of their proposed oath-taking with the Presidents political party.

Cupido Ferrer, Punong Barangay of Barangay Daragan in Buenavista town, said the President is “okay.”

“Look at his anti-drug program. He has been doing his best to address the problems of the country,” he said in the vernacular.

Ferrer, now 70 years old, also lauded the President’s programs for senior citizens and indigent Filipinos. (PNA)
