Duterte to meet with PDP factions

TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte — President Rodrigo Duterte will gather the two factions of the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) to settle the party’s internal dispute.

This was disclosed on Friday by Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on the sidelines of the mass oath-taking of new members of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) here.

Go, who sits as PDP-Laban interim auditor, said the meeting was tentatively set next week at a still undisclosed time and venue.

Go became the party’s interim auditor in 2016 with President Rodrigo Duterte as chairman.

“Until now, kami pa rin po ang party officers (Until now we are still the party officers),” he told reporters when sought for a reaction to the controversies hounding PDP-Laban.

Go wished the two factions would unify and make the party stronger, noting that the organization helped propel Duterte to the presidency.

A faction of the PDP-Laban held an assembly last week and elected new leaders with Duterte remaining as the party’s chairman. It also elected Go as auditor.

The faction elected Rogelio Garcia sa president in place of Senator Aquilino Pimentel III.

Pimentel, however, maintained there is only one PDP-Laban. (Lilian C. Mellejor/PNA)
