Duterte urges PQA awardees to promote firm-level competitiveness

MANILA — President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday encouraged winners of the Philippine Quality Award (PQA) to scale up their efforts and aggressively promote firm-level competitions in their respective industries.

Duterte made the challenge as he led the 2017 PQA and Conferment Ceremony at the Heroes Hall of Malacañang Palace.

He also enjoined the awardees “to continue being an inspiration to your respective sectors and industries.”

“Appreciate the value of sharing your best practices so that other organizations may learn and reach their full potentials,” he said.

The President commended the PQA organizers, led by administrators Engelbert Caronan and Warren Enteria, for their commitment to organizational efficiency across various sectors.

“Know that your efforts toward performance excellence (are) aligned with the government’s efforts to make our country more globally competitive,” Duterte said.

“Together, let us work towards achievements of our sustainable development goals for a stronger economy and a brighter future for the Filipino people,” he added.

The PQA was established two decades ago to recognize organizations that continuously improve the quality of their processes, goods and services, and serve as example to other organizations.

Duterte took the opportunity to recognize former presidents Fidel V. Ramos and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for their integral role and guidance in the promotion and development of PQA values and advocacies.

The awardees include the Lyceum of the Philippines-Batangas, The Thompson Reuters Corp. Pte., Ltd. Philippine Branch, Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP Plaza, Malate), and the National Kidney and Transplant Institute for proficiency in quality management category for 2015.

Those awarded for commitment to quality management are Colegeio de San Juan de Letran-Calamba, Mindanao Corrugated Fibreboard, Inc., City Government of Tanauan (Batangas), Department of Labor and Employment 12, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 4-A, Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and the University of the Philippines-National Engineering Center.
