Beneficiaries of Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP) were given cash assistance in Iloilo as the government assures former rebels that they will not regret surrendering to the government.
ECLIP is a government tool that provides financial aid, reintegration, immediate, and livelihood assistance to help former rebels start anew in their communities.
“Now is the time for embracing everyone. Gawin natin ang lahat upang maramdaman nila na hindi sila magsisisi,” Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Sec. Benjamin Abalos Jr., who led the awarding ceremony on Aug. 25, told Ilonggos as he urged them to welcome former rebels into the society.
Abalos also led the inauguration of the new set of League of Municipalities of the Philippines LMP officers in the IloIlo chapter, where he affirmed his commitment to support local government units (LGUs).
“The LGUs are my bosses. I am here to serve you. That is the role of DILG,” he said.
Abalos also expressed gratitude for local leaders’ continued support to the national government’s programs, citing the signed agreement of DILG and the Department of Social Welfare and Development on the payout of educational assistance to individuals in crisis situations.
Moreover, members of the Regional Management Coordinating Committee also attended the event to discuss with Abalos issues and concerns including the decongestion of jails, humane treatment of Persons Deprived of Liberty, and the need for improved fire stations and additional fire trucks in some municipalities.
