Education vital in driving youths away from drugs: AFP chief

MANILA — Only proper education can steer today’s youths away from the deadly illegal drug menace.

This was stressed by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff Gen. Carlito Galvez, Jr., as he took part in the “Alay Lakad 2018”, which took place in Manila Sunday.

Edukasyon na mag-aahon sa kanila mula sa kahirapan (We want to give quality education to our youth. Education will give light and direction to their lives. Education will drive them away from drugs, crime and groups exploiting their young minds. Education will bring them out of poverty),” he added.

Alay Lakad is covered by Presidential Proclamation No. 168, series of 1993, which supports the noble vision of Alay-Lakad Foundation, Inc. (ALFI) as an institution that provides financial assistance for the Filipino youth.

ALFI is chaired by four civic groups: Lions Club International, Junior Chamber International Philippines, Kiwanis International and Rotary International District 3810. Proceeds of the yearly fundraising campaign will help provide more livelihood trainings and scholarships for the out-of-school youth.

In line with this, the AFP chief also handed over a check worth PHP280,000 to ALFI national president Frank Evaristo in support of their campaign. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
