Eleazar directs PNP Caraga to be on full alert vs. possible NPA attack

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar alerted police officers in the Caraga region to be on full alert against possible attacks of Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) rebels.

This came after Caraga police received information that the rebels will attack police officers even in their homes.

“Nakatanggap ng ulat ang inyong kapulisan hinggil sa plano ng CPP-NPA na magsagawa ng mga pag-atake sa Caraga region, kaya’t inalerto na natin ang lahat ng PNP units hindi lamang sa CARAGA kundi sa buong bansa tungkol dito,” Eleazar said.

He explained that this kind of information should not be ignored as this may affect the safety and welfare of innocent civilians in the communities.

“Hinihikayat din natin ang ating mga kababayan na agad ipag-bigay alam sa amin ang anumang impormasyon sa presensya ng mga teroristang rebeldeng ito sa inyong komunidad, sa pamamagitan ng aming ‘e-sumbong’ upang mapigilan ang kanilang mga plano,” Eleazar said.

The PNP chief also stressed the need for the PNP and the community to work together against the CPP-NPA.

“Gaya ng nangyari sa Masbate at Surigao del Norte kung saan nadamay ang mga sibilyan sa kanilang pag-atake, huwag nating pairalin ang takot, pananahimik, at pagsasa-walang bahala ng mga impormasyon dahil nakasalalay sa inyong impormasyon ang inyong kaligtasan,” he said.

“Ipakita natin sa grupong ito na walang lugar ang terorismo sa ating mga komunidad, sa pamamagitan ng ating pagtutulungan upang pigilan ang kanilang mga plano.”

Eleazar branded this move of the NPA as a desperate act to show that the group still has the strength to fight against the government.

“Ang mga ganitong pagbabanta at planong pagsalakay ng mga rebelde ay nagpapakita na mahina na ang kanilang puwersa. Gusto lang nila palabasin na malakas pa sila, pero sa totoo ay malapit na ang katapusan ng NPA dahil na din sa dami ng na-neutralize ng mga pulis at sundalo, kasama iyong mga sumuko sa gobyerno,” Eleazar said.

He tasked police units and offices to intensify intelligence-gathering efforts to prevent rebel attacks. All concerned PNP personnel were also ordered to closely coordinate with military units. (PNP-PIO) – jlo
