EVisayas’ PNP chief leads Oplan Galugad raid in jails

TACLOBAN CITY — Members of the police force in Eastern Visayas led by PNP Region 8 Director, Police Chief Superintendent Gilberto DC Cruz, along with the heads of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), barangay officials and representatives of the media conducted an Oplan Galugad raid among jail facilities in the region recently.

A memorandum of agreement was entered into between the Philippine National Police and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology following a directive from President Duterte to eradicate the proliferation of illegal drugs in the country to include those in jail facilities.

In a statement, General Cruz said that members of the media were invited to avoid speculations that some members of the police force are allegedly involved in foul plays.

“Transparency in Oplan Galugad is very important that’s why we invited the media,” he said.

The Oplan Galugad yielded negative results with repsect to drug items and paraphernalia. However, the items seized were bladed weapons and cellphones inside the detention cells.

Police Community Relations Chief Senior Superintendent Elizar P. Egloso said that all confiscated items were properly documented and brought to respective police stations for proper disposition.

With this development, police authorities urged the public to report immediately to them any drug related incidents. To help the police and other law enforcement agencies in providing relevant and timely information, civilians may contact them through twitter @Pro8Pcrd or FB page-PNP RegionEight or by calling their hotline numbers at ‎09173238683/09088146421.
