Ex-Catanduanes governor Estacio passes away at 65

LEGAZPI CITY — Former Catanduanes Governor Rosalie Alberto Estacio died from cardiac arrest at her residence in Moonwalk Subdivision, Parañaque City in Metro Manila on Tuesday, Oct. 2. She was 65.

The late official is survived by her husband Rolando, Sr., daughters Maria Cristina, Maria Regina, Maria Victoria, Maria Margarita, and only son Rolando Jr.

In a telephone interview, Rolando Jr. told the Philippine News Agency that his mother suffered a heart attack around 5 a.m. and responding paramedics failed to revive her.

He recalled that she underwent a coronary angioplasty procedure in 2012.

Estacio’s political career goes back to 1989 when she was elected as vice governor of Catanduanes. She became governor of the island province in 1992.

Estacio came from a political family, being the daughter of the late Catanduanes Congressman Jose Alberto who chaired the House Appropriation Committee during the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos.

She was also a sister of former Virac town Mayor Jose “Cito” Alberto, and niece of the late former Catanduanes Governor Vicente Alberto and former Vice Governor Jose “Tete” Alberto.

Estacio’s remains would lie in state at the Holy Trinity Memorial Chapels in Sucat, Parañaque, Rolando Jr. said.

Once their relatives from abroad arrive in the country, her body would be flown to Virac where she would be buried, he added. (Mar Serrano/PNA)
