Ex-cop in wanted list dies in shootout

A former police officer and No. 2 most wanted person of Malolos, Bulacan was killed in a shootout with members of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) in Pampanga.

In an initial report of AKG Director Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo to PNP Chief Police General Debold M Sinas, the suspect was identified the slain ex-cop as RICO MOOG GUTIERREZ, a former patrolman assigned at the Quezon Police Provincial Office (PPO).

Joint elements of SOU, IRAD and LFU- AKG led by PMAJ RAMON CZAR D SOLAS in coordination with Floridablanca Police Station, served the Warrant of Arrest against the suspect under Criminal Case Number 5844-M-2019 issued by Hon Ma. Cristina A. Ramos-Beltran for the crime of MURDER at Brgy Sta. Monica Floridablanca, Pampanga.

As the operatives approached the suspect, he opened fire on the arresting team prompting the latter to return fire which resulted in gunshot wounds in his body.

The suspect was immediately brought to Romana Pangan District Hospital for medical treatment but declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Basmayor Jr. was a dismissed police officer who was responsible for the killing of Jaypee De Guzman on February 19, 2020, in Brgy. Sumanding, San Rafael, Bulacan by shooting the latter on different parts of his body that caused his immediate death. Thereafter, he flees onboard in a waiting motorcycle and hid in Isabela and Pampanga area. He is also allegedly involved in Gun for Hire activities in the area of Central Luzon.
