DAVAO CITY – Known for his tough stance against scalawags, illegal drugs, and corruption, the new chief of the Manila Police District (MPD) has vowed to clean the ranks of the Manila police–once known as the Philippines’ finest.
Senior Supt. Vicente Danao, Jr., who used to be chief of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), assumed as the new MPD director on November 8.
Danao, who served in this city when President Rodrigo Duterte was mayor, replaced Chief Superintendent Rolando Anduyan.
In a phone interview with the Philippine News Agency on Friday, Danao said he wants to bring back the “glory days of Manila’s finest.”
“A few personnel of MPD have been dragged into different anomalies, I encourage each and every officer and men of the Manila’s finest to bring back their old glory days,” the police official said.
He mapped out his reform program using MPD’s acronym: M- Magalang at mapagkakatiwalaan (courteous and trustworthy); P-Protektor ng mga inaapi at ordinaryong mamamayan (Protector of the people); D-Disiplinado at dedikado sa serbisyo (Disciplined and dedicated to serve).
Before becoming MPD chief, Danao was assigned with the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) as deputy director for operation.
He was also appointed commander of the National Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force, which is under the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD), on April 27, 2017.
