Ex-mayor hunted for shooting kin in Lanao Sur

PARANG, Maguindanao — Police and military forces in Malabang, Lanao del Sur are hunting down a former town mayor in the province who shot and injured a man Friday morning in the same town.

Chief Supt. Graciano Mijares, police director for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PNP-ARMM), said a massive manhunt has been launched against Ibra Marohom Pagayawan, former mayor of nearby town of Calanogas, also in Lanao del Sur, after he shot Arnais Bulkais Marohom, a distant relative.

Citing report from Malabang Municipal Police Office, Mijares said the suspect and the victim were talking in a house in Barangay BPS village, Malabang town when the conversation turned into heated argument.

The former town official pulled his side arm and shot the victim in his leg than fled. Mijares could not say what made the former mayor shot the victim. He directed the Malabang police to pursue the suspect and file charges against him. (PNA)
