LEGAZPI CITY — A former Matnog town administrator was killed by anti-narcotics operatives on Sunday after he resisted arrest during an anti-illegal drug operation in Barangay (village) Talisay in Sorsogon City, a report reaching the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Bicol said Monday.
Killed was Edgar Gardon tagged by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency as a high-value target (HVT) drug personality operating in Sorsogon province, according to Police Senior Inspector Maria Luisa Calubaquib, PNP Bicol spokesperson.
She said joint operatives of the PDEA and Sorsogon City Police, armed with a search warrant, raided a unit rented by the suspect at the Balay Dormitoryo in Monreal St., of said village, at about 7:15 a.m. Sunday.
The suspect, when served with the warrant of arrest, resisted and pulled an unknown handgun, forcing the raiding team to fire at him, resulting in his instant death.
Christian Frivaldo, PDEA regional director, in a phone interview today said initial report reaching his office said the anti-narcotic team recovered in the suspect’s room several handguns including a sub-machine rifle.
He said the suspect reportedly had a connection with Peter Lim, a top drug personality operating in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.
Frivaldo added that the suspect was a former Matnog town administrator during the term of former Mayor Emilio Ubaldo. (Mar Serrano/PNA)
