Faithful urged to pray the Rosary in October

MANILA — October is the month of the Holy Rosary.

For Catholics, the Holy Rosary is the second highest powerful prayer next to the Holy Mass, according to Rev. Fr. Christopher “Kit” Ramirez, SVD, of the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church, Malacañang.

In an interview, Ramirez urged Catholics to pray the Rosary daily as it is a powerful modern weapon against evil as “it has been proven to be very effective prayer that connects us to God through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ.”

He said praying the Rosary at this crucial time of the modern age “reflects and brings our closeness to Jesus.”

Reacting to those who belittle the Rosary as “repetitious and boring,” Ramirez said. “If that is so why do we repeatedly chew our food when we eat?”

“This is because by chewing our food we are satisfied of the food we eat,” he added.

Ramirez said at this “troubled times of ours,” praying the Holy Rosary is a mighty weapon to call for the intercession of the Blessed Mother that “our prayers be answered by God.”

According to the teaching of the Catholic Church, the Holy Rosary has four mysteries: Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and Luminous.

The Joyful Mysteries are the Annunciation, Visitation, Birth of Jesus, Presentation and Finding of the Child in the Temple.

Sorrowful Mysteries are Agony in the Garden, Scourging at the Pillar, Crowning with Thorns, Carrying of the Cross and Crucifixion.

Glorious Mysteries are Resurrection, Ascension, Descent of the Holy Spirit, Assumption and Coronation.

The Mysteries of Light are Christ’s Baptism at the Jordan, Christ’s Self-Revelation Changing Water into Wine at the Wedding at Cana, Proclamation of the kingdom of God with Christ’s call to conversion, Transfiguration and Institution of the Eucharist.

The Blessed Virgin Mary, during her apparitions to various people who later became saints, told them to pray the Rosary because it is so powerful with heaven.

“In this modern time when dangers of war and disasters are far greater than the ancient times, praying the Holy Rosary is the best weapon to deliver us from dangers,” Ramirez said. (Ben Cal/PNA)
