Fake dollar peddler nabbed in MisOr town

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—Authorities arrested a suspected trader of counterfeit United States dollars in Villanueva town Saturday, police said.

Roy Janio, 53, of barangay Sta. Ana in nearby Tagoloan town, was nabbed in an entrapment operation by the combined team of local police, personnel from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Northern Mindanao and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

Authorities acted on a tip from the local BSP office here about Janio’s alleged counterfeiting activities and set up a sting operation with the local police, said Senior Supt. Rolando Destura, CIDG provincial director.

Janio yielded 100 fake US$20 bills and 99 fake US$5 bills.
The suspect is now detained at the CIDG detention center in Malaybalay City pending filing of criminal complaint against him.

Commending the personnel involved in the operation, Destura called on law enforcement authorities “to continue our unwavering efforts to eradicate all forms of criminality within the province on reinvigorating our anti-criminality campaign.” (Mark D. Francisco/PNA)
